She told her daughter to pick one sport and commit.įisher chose basketball and never looked back. She was having trouble managing it all and didn’t know how Fisher was doing it all either. The weekends were reserved for basketball games and cross country and track meets.Īlston, who works nights as a respiratory therapist, told Fisher it was too much. After training, Fisher ran home, showered and put on her ballet clothes to go to ballet practice. Alston dropped her off at basketball training in the morning. "We would just be up all night playing games and I would just go downstairs, bouncing the ball because I always had a ball in my hands," Fisher says.Īt 7 years old, Fisher competed in ballet, track/cross-country and basketball. She practiced her handles outside or in the family’s basement. Lavern Alston, their mom, had to always remind Malik not to dunk on his sister, while Kelis would ask him to play harder defense.įisher learned to mimic the moves she saw on 2K and adapted them into her own game. ![]() A neighbor allowed them to use their hoop and Malik never went easy on Kelis. They’d play for hours until they took the competition outside in the alley nearby the family’s home in Baltimore. The sophomore from Balitmore transferred to IMG to complete her high school career.
